Bogdanov’s universal science of organisation — general systems theory three decades early, buried with its author and reinvented, unknowing, elsewhere.
§ 01 THE ARRIVAL
He arrived at the universal science already several men deep. By 1912 Alexander Bogdanov — physician, economist, philosopher, science-fiction novelist, and Lenin’s defeated rival for the soul of Bolshevism — had been driven from the party’s centre, anathematised in print, and pushed to the margin of the revolution he had helped to build. He answered in the only register he trusted: generality.
Between 1913 and 1922 he published Tektology: The Universal Science of Organisation in three parts — an attempt to find the structural laws common to every organised system, from cells to factories to societies. Equilibrium and crisis; selection; the weakest link; regulation by feedback in all but name. It is the vocabulary of systems theory and cybernetics, written three decades before either had a name, in a country about to make its author unmentionable.

§ 02·b WHAT HELD IT TOGETHER
Everything that exists is organisation. The same structural laws — equilibrium, crisis, selection, the weakest link — govern the physical, the biological and the social; one general science can therefore unify knowledge and direct the building of a new society, and a new human.

The doctrine came with organs — each arm an application of the same law, and each cut down in turn.
Organ 01 · the multi-volume treatise
Three parts, 1913–1922, revised as the revolution ran ahead of them: the universal science set down in the plainest prose he could manage, for the class he believed would inherit it.
Organ 02 · the utopian novel
Red Star, 1908 — the organised society already running on Mars: planned production, shared labour, and the comradely exchange of blood among equals. Utopia written as an engineering specification.
Organ 03 · the proletkult studio
Proletkult, from 1917 — workers’ studios in their hundreds and several hundred thousand members at the peak, a movement to make the proletariat the author of its own culture. Subordinated to the state by 1920.
Organ 04 · the blood-transfusion institute
The world’s first blood-transfusion institute, Moscow, 1926 — the physiological commons made clinical, exchange transfusion as comradeship carried down into the blood. The arm that killed him.
§ 05 WHY IT SPREAD
The promise of one science underlying all the sciences flattered every discipline it touched — each field became a province of organisation.
Revolutionary Russia rewarded total systems: a theory of organisation was simultaneously a programme for building socialism.
Lenin’s attack made the ideas contraband — guaranteeing their suppression and their outsider glamour in a single stroke.
§ 06 THE ENGINES, IN HIS OWN TERMS
Tektology names its own forces: conjugation, the joining of complexes; disingression, the break. The scene obeyed its doctrine.

§ 07 THE DOSSIER
A one-man synthesis with a movement attached. Bogdanov led the Vpered faction and Proletkult, but tektology itself had no disciples: to engage was either to absorb his vocabulary or to oppose it, and Lenin chose opposition.
Anticipated general systems theory and cybernetics by three decades; animated a movement of several hundred thousand; founded the world’s first blood-transfusion institute — and was then erased so thoroughly that the systems sciences had to be invented again elsewhere, unknowing.
The lone systematiser as a scene of one — proof that a sufficiently general vocabulary can serve as a gathering-place across a century, even when its own time refuses it.
